Penclawdd Survey: Reporting Back

by mike sheehan on 15 March, 2022

The Penclawdd recovery survey gave us all a chance to give our opinion on some of the issues in Penclawdd. It also let us say what we think the priorities of Swansea council should be going forward. On most issues the majority opinion was very clear. 90% believed that a ‘green’ recovery should be prioritized as we build back after Covid. 85% of people thought that a fairer alternative to business rates should be introduced to help the local economy recover. Perhaps not surprisingly 80% of the people replying felt that Swansea Council does not invest enough in areas like Penclawdd that are outside the city centre.

Quite a few local businesses were commended for the way they had helped everyone cope during the worst of the pandemic. They included both the butchers, CK’s, the chemists, the Crofty shop and post office, Blodwen dairy, Gower motors, the supermarkets and the North Gower food bank.

Litter was big theme among people’s suggestions for issues the councillors should concentrate on. This was both litter hotspots like the area near the chippy and the need for more dog waste bins, particularly in Crofty. Quite a few people commented on the problems with the pavements and roads and the heavy traffic on the main road in the centre of the village.
